We work with clients (and often their accountants) to set up and provide legal advice regarding the following:
- sole proprietorships
- business partnerships
- family-owned businesses
- small corporations – including incorporating and preparing Bylaws and Minutes of Meetings of Directors and Shareholders
- business succession planning
We have business clients in both the for-profit and not-for-profit sectors.
We prepare and review partnership agreements, shareholders agreements and buy/sell agreements.
We also prepare and review other types of contracts.
Norman has written an article entitled “Business Succession Planning.” It discusses the topics that the owner(s) of a business needs to think about when preparing for retirement from the business, whether the business is a farm, a store, a restaurant, a machine shop, or some other type of business.
Sometimes for the purposes of estate and tax planning, it is advantageous for business people to have more than one will – being a Probate Will and at least one Non-Probate Will.
To help you understand the benefit of having at least one Non-Probate Will, here is a link to an article that we have written on “Possible Savings in Probate Tax.”
We are happy to discuss any of the above with you.
