Buying and selling property is usually an exciting and major event. In fact, for most people the purchase of a house represents their largest single investment. The area of Real Estate Law is complex and requires considerable knowledge and expertise.

The money you spend on legal fees represents a very small percentage of your investment. Do not let fees be the only deciding factor in choosing a lawyer to act for you on your purchase or sale. The number of steps taken in a routine real estate transaction generally exceed 100. You want a lawyer who is not going to skip over many of those steps. Think about it - would you choose your heart surgeon based on which doctor gave you the lowest fee quote? Until recently, there were more claims against Ontario real estate lawyers for negligence and mistakes than against any other single area of law. Now real estate lawyers are in second place in Ontario! Remember that old saying "You get what you pay for."
